What

An intimate three-day workshop focusing on writing science fiction and fantasy for television. Through a series of lectures, screenings, creative exercises, and conversations, participants will learn first hand how shows like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica were written and created and how they might apply these techniques to deepen, develop, and expand on their own projects. 

The workshop will be held during the day from 10am – 6pm Saturday and Sunday, and 10am – 5pm Monday. Healthy lunch and dinner will be included on Saturday and Sunday, and lunch and light appetizers on Monday.

Who

Led by writers and producers of For All Mankind, Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica. This workshop is open to anyone writing science fiction and/or fantasy. Space will be limited to no more than fifteen participants.

About the leaders

David Weddle has served as a writer/producer for such television series as: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Battlestar Galactica, CSI, Falling Skies, The Strain.  He is currently a writer/executive producer for the Apple series, For All Mankind.

In a 40 year career, Ira Steven Behr has written and/or produced hundreds of television episodes, many of them in the sci-fi genre including Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Michael Nankin is a film and television writer, director and producer.  He was a regular director on Battlestar Galactica and has been nominated for the Humanitas Prize for writing. His recent credits include The Good Lord Bird, Billy the Kid, Dark Winds and Hell on Wheels.

Mark Verheiden is an Oregon born television, movie, and comic-book writer. He was writer and co-executive producer on the television series Battlestar Galactica since season two, and wrote nine episodes of the series. Other credits include The Mask, Timecop, and Daredevil.

Where

Classes will be held in the historic country home of author Ken Kesey in Pleasant Hill, Oregon, twenty minutes from downtown Eugene, Oregon. It is a quirky old barn house with a small flight of stairs and limited steps inside, but assistance can be provided upon request.

Important details

Applications due Sunday, March 24.
Applicants will be notified by Sunday, March 31.
Tuition is $900.
A non-refundable deposit of $450 is due by Saturday, April 6 to hold your spot.
A final deposit of $450 is due by Saturday, May 4.
Writers from all educational backgrounds and career stages are welcome to apply.
Please note that all participants will need to provide their own off-site, overnight lodging and transportation.
